Success Stories

The week long Hollywood Hoosier Networking Trip that I attended during the spring of my junior year changed my life forever. As long as I had known that I wanted to work in entertainment, I never knew how or where to get started. After the trip to LA, meeting all of the wonderfully experienced and generous IU alum – it became very clear, Los Angeles. The support of BAA and BCEC’s connections with alumni in LA got me to where I am today. I graduated and moved to Los Angeles right away. Through my dedicated work with Campus MovieFest in Bloomington, I got a temp position as a receptionist at Panasonic where I met Jon Landau and James Cameron. Since then I started working at International Creative Management (ICM) agency and there I continue to expand my understanding of the entertainment industry everyday. I am the executive assistant to George Ruiz, Head of New Media and SVP of Motion Picture Business Affairs. I am grateful to Indiana, its Telecom department, and the motivated students in groups like BAA that got me here today. Thank you.

I was patient with my time at MGM and finally got into Litigation. I’m the assistant to the SVP and Deputy General Counsel of MGM now because of it. Before my current position, I interned for Leonardo DiCaprio’s production company, Appian Way, BenderSpink and Village Roadshow. After interning, I was a production assistant for Jimmy Kimmel Live and the production company Collaboration Factory where we shot promos for GLEE, music videos and Blu-ray extras for Ryan Gosling’s film ALL GOOD THINGS.  Currently, I assist the head of Litigation during MGM’s resurgence and current development of BOND 23 and THE HOBBIT.

The most important thing I’ve learned is to be patient. If you do a good job, smile and are a good sport, you will move up.  Being humble is also very important.  This is a rough business and if you’re not patient, humble or thick skinned, you won’t last more than a year.
